Now that summer is fast-approaching, nothing seems yummier than a fresh, delightful salad. However, if you top it off with store-bought croutons (which are filled with preservatives and unnecessary junk), you may be stripping it away of all the health benefits it could offer. If you want to enjoy some nutritious, but equally tasty, croutons with your salad, then you can prepare your own by following the recipe in this post.

Get the Right Ingredients

  • Whole grain bread (you can get the best bread in Tulsa at Great Harvest!)
  • Olive oil
  • Added flavor (e.g.: garlic, herbs, parmesan cheese, salt, pepper)

Gather Your Supplies

  • A cutting board
  • A cutting knife
  • An oven
  • Baking sheets

Follow the Instructions

  • Get your oven ready by preheating it at 350°F.
  • Start cutting bread cubes of about an inch (or however big/small you want your croutons to be).
  • Spread a thin layer of olive oil on a baking sheet, and start placing the bread cubes on it. Make sure to give each piece enough space to cook properly.
  • Before sticking the sheet in the oven, add your extra ingredients to the bread. You can make it as flavorful as you want it.
  • Place the baking sheet in the oven and let the bread bake for around 5 minutes or until the bread has a golden color and crunchy texture.
  • Turn each individual piece around so it can cook on the other side and leave it in the oven for another 5 minutes.
  • Take them out, and after letting them cool for a while, add the croutons to your salads and soups for that extra delicious spin.
